Sophie will host a Research Conversations afternoon at Pymble Ladies' College, Sydney

Joining guests at Pymble Ladies’ College for a special event, Sophie will host a Research Conversations afternoon to share insights into her career, the importance of studying the humanities and ways to celebrate the humanities in the public sphere.

Diving into her academic specialisation in English, Sophie will explore contemporary research into the neurological dimensions of reading and consider what happens when readers engage with characters, plots and settings beyond their lifeworlds.

Sophie will also share the world of the Ivy League academic communities of Harvard and Princeton, where she has studied and worked, which will be of interest to students considering overseas opportunities.

Our educational mission is to share classic literature with as many people as possible.

We both have long careers as teachers - Sophie in university classrooms around the world and Jonty through countless public educational programs on television and radio. We guide listeners clearly and accessibly. We keep things entertaining and relatable.

Schools programs include:

  • class-length presentation from Sophie and Jonty with headlines about the “secret life” of the text - biography, history and critical takes. Episodes already recorded will be available for student/teacher/parents to listen.

  • 15-20 minutes of questions for students

  • Internship opportunity for senior students. We guide students to guest-edit an episode, write show-notes, design and execute social media roll-out.

  • Optional “advanced reading seminar” for teaching faculty, similar to 90-minute seminars and classes Sophie and Jonty teach.
